- 19-year-old student kidnapped on September 14
- Had sent WhatsApp video listing kidnappers’ demand for 50 lakhs
- Body found in lake this morning, 6 people arrested
A college student’s body has been found this morning near a Bengaluru lake, just days after he was seen in a video asking his parents to provide 50 lakhs as ransom to his kidnappers.
6 men have been arrested in connection with the crime; this morning, they reportedly led the police to the place where they had buried the 19-year-old.
Sharath, whose father, Niranjan Kumar is a senior Income Tax official, was kidnapped on September 12 while riding his new motorcycle. He wanted to show it off to his friends.
Two days later, his parents received a video on WhatsApp in which he listed the demand for ransom, but reportedly appeared calm.
Police sources say a second WhatsApp video reportedly helped establish that he was alive.
One of the suspects was reportedly known to the family.
