Congress Lawmaker, 11 Others Get 6 Months In Jail For Rioting

Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh:  A court in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday sentenced a Congress legislator, two former MLAs and nine other party workers to six months’ imprisonment in a case of rioting.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of them, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Punam Verma.

Judicial Magistrate Abhishek Saxena convicted Congress MLA from Kailaras, Ram Singh Yadav; former MLAs Harivallabh Shukla and Virendra Raghuvanshi and nine others.

“The court found them guilty under IPC sections 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 148 (rioting) and 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others),” Mr Verma said.

They were also held guilty under the Prevention of Damage to Public Properties Act.

The incident had taken place on September 30, 2011 when Congress workers staged a protest at the district collector’s office. It was alleged that protesters threw stones at District Collector John Kingsly and created a ruckus in the campus.
