Garbage Dump Caves In At Ghazipur Landfill In Delhi Trapping 4-5 Cars

A garbage dump has caved in at the Ghazipur landfill site on the outskirts of Delhi, due to which at least four vehicles have fallen into a canal. One person is reportedly dead, while a few others are said to be trapped.

Rescue operations are underway. An NDRF team has also reportedly arrived to assist in rescue ops.

Police says one body has been recovered from the Kondli canal, in which the cars fell, according to news agency ANI.

The garbage dump, in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area, collapsed around 2:20 pm.

The Ghazipur landfill site that came up in 1984, is the oldest of the three landfills and it caters to the waste generated in East and North East Delhi, Old Delhi, Paharganj zone and the entire New Delhi areas.
